War is hell and should be avoided.
Anyway you're not supposed to go all political on OCN so that's it for me.

It's actually more gen 4.5 as it has canards which are very unstealthy. Very little is known about this Chinese jet but I really don't think it will be anywhere near as good as the F-22, do you?
Experts have already stated the airframe design isn't very stealthy, not like the F-22. It is bigger than the F-22 so probably will have a lower thrust to weight ratio. Personally I think it will be a piece of junk considering China's previous attempts at building fast jets. The US is projected to have military superiority over China for the foreseeable future. The Pentagon said that not me so argue with them.
Having said that though the Chinese military build up is quite disturbing.
This person takes the media and internet VERY SERIOUSLY.

No I'm just interested in aviation. Nothing to do with the media and internet that's just basic jet stuff really. If you're not interested don't bother responding.

The F22 can be improved 10 fold by making it a drone. Hell you can make the F16 to be extremely deadly by removing the pilot. By the time Chinease or the Russians make a plane to can actually compete with the F22, USA will already have something better. The US is a generation ahead of everyone. Remember the US had a flying F22 in the 90s.

I can absolutely guarantee you it won't be quite as good. The bigger question is, does that matter?

The whole purpose of the Jxx is to strike enough fear into opponents so a war becomes unlikely. If I were an F22 pilot, and a Chinese pilot comes up in a Mig-29, I'd fight him while playing Crisis on my laptop in the cockpit. He poses no threat at all. It makes me WANT to pick a fight.

However, if the Chinese pilot is in a (production version) J20, I'd be more than a little nervous. Sure, I may still win, but I better put in 100% of my effort, because one little mistake and I could be dead or seriously wounded.

It makes me NOT WANT to pick a fight. And that, is the purpose behind high tech weapons in modern Superpower nations.

Why do you feel unerving the Chinse is building up their military? Is it because they might become hot headed, and randomly attack a little country like Iraq? Oh, wait, oops, scratch that last one...

Then you should know how much bias you're reading by sticking only to "Western" sources.

Read what the Chinese and Russian "Pentagon" has to say about our Western planes and warships, it'll make you loose confidence in them rather quick.

Yes, they're both biased. The smart man doesn't believe everything he reads, but rather, draws his own conclusions based on educated analysis.

I wouldn't worry - this is a Walmart style jet, and will probably fall apart the first time it gets near a battle. Or they will have so much lead paint on the thing, it can't get off the ground. Of course, China is fixated on attacking Taiwan, but can't seem to accomplish that feat.
for chinese products, you get what you pay for. Reason why most things fall a part is because us consumers want things for the cheapest price possible. so manufacturers sacrifice quality to match the price. There are some high quality things that comes out of china.

on topic:
we have no idea how far US or china has progressed in their military technology. as someone mentioned F22 has been flying for a while. For all we know there may be other jets flying around that we do not know about. As for china J20 seems to be flying, it be fake report or not, but many sources claim that it was based upon F35's leaked documents. Also they're still importing engines from russia and these engines do not have "stealth" ability yet. Seems china's having small problems with manufacturing the engines themselves.
with equal number of F22 and J20, F22s should come out on top due to its maneuverability and better trained pilots despite the lower speed and perhaps less weapon load. However with supposed ratio of 1:3 from the price it may change. also can china print out that many copies of jets?

Good point there, pilot training plays a HUGE factor, and China still has some ways to go compared to US or Russia. Case in point, we haven't seen any Chinese J11 (SU27/30) doing cobra manuvers.

Hell, I bet I can fly a Cessna better than an under-funded, under-fueled, under-fed, under-trained North Korean Mig29 pilot

With stealth crafts however, manuverbility and dog fights become less important. The whole point of steath fighters is to attack before detect. By the time you're in dog fight range, you may as well pull out an F16, Mig29, or SU and be just as good.
