You've played too many computer games. It's logic like you've displayed above why thankfully your not a fighter pilot. You can't reload life, any combat situation, however much the odds are in your favour, carries enormous risk.

Electronic warfare could level all these fields, disable the pentgons, field armies, national, planes, ships - wherever computers, and a modern war machine is just a big lumbering hulk of metal. Most of these modern planes couldn't even get off the ground without advanced electronics. You don't need a multi billion £ industry to create a virus. A lone man with Aspergers can hack into military institutions, what can a nation can do?

It's not advanced jets that stop super powers going to war, one side will always believe they have something better, or more, the only thing that stops them (if they actually wanted to go to war in the first place) is nuclear weopons. It really doesn't matter if you've got 100 advanced stealth fighters, if your top 10 major cities have been incinerated.

Manned military jets will soon become a thing of the past, like hoplites, knights, battle ships, tanks, there will always come along something simple that out smarts them, and makes them an anachronism.

Really, debating about which super power has the best plane is pointless, when they'll never fight each other, it's like asking who'd win an arm wrestle between Adolf Hitler and Attila the Hun.

oicw I'm sure you're aware the Chinese government are paranoid totalitarian communists who've already invaded and annexed Tibet and would probably invade and annex Taiwan if not for the US. Independent sources from China are practically non-existent as the government exercises extreme censorship. I've heard a Chinese general boasting they could nuke LA. You don't seem to be aware of the reality of modern China.
The US is actually a democracy with many sources of independent information. I'm sure you know the difference between a democracy and communist state. The US Republican party are not my favorite people in the world that's for sure and I haven't agreed with their war starting policies. Due to the US democracy they've now been voted out of power something which is not possible in a totalitarian regime. But if it wasn't for sept 11 they wouldn't have invaded Iraq again and Afghanistan.
A war between nuclear powers is highly unlikely because of MAD (mutually assured destruction). That's why the cold war didn't go hot.

Purpleannex very good points above. A war between nuclear powers is highly unlikely because of MAD (mutually assured destruction). That's why the cold war didn't go hot.
LoL, you must still live in the past. Calling China Communist is like calling the US a Democracy.

Someone seems to have forgotten how the US virtually cleansed the American Indians, but it's OK, it's not in our history books and it's not something elementary school students want to know anyway.

Spelling mistake champ. Why don't you try writing something longer than two sentences so I can be the critic.

That's not actually true is it? The Gulf war started in 1991 - ten years before 9-11. Yeah, Iraq invaded kuwait but who backed Iraq in the 1980's...?

As for Afghanistan, well...

"After the Carter administration provoked a Soviet invasion, Reagan came to power to support the Islamic fundamentalists in their war to eject the Soviets and the secular government, which honored women's rights. In the end, the United States and the fundamentalists "won", women's rights and the rest of Afghanistan lost. More than a million dead, three million disabled, five million refugees; in total about half the population. And many thousands of anti-American Islamic fundamentalists, trained and armed by the US, on the loose to terrorize the world, to this day.
"To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom," declared Reagan. "Their courage teaches us a great lesson — that there are things in this world worth defending. To the Afghan people, I say on behalf of all Americans that we admire your heroism, your devotion to freedom, and your relentless struggle against your oppressors."

Ps, this isn't politics, just a history lesson, as we know, history is written by the victors, propoganda is still propoganda whether in a democracy or a dictatorship.

purpleannex I was referring to Gulf war 2. I assumed people would realise I was referring to the post 9/11 invasion of Iraq since 9/11 was mentioned in the same sentence. Obviously with people like you who seem to just want to argue for the sake of arguing it needed to be spelled out exactly. Edited.

So you actually believe that quote in your post (and the rest of the article from The Anti-Empire Report which I read).
purpleannex no offense to you and your political views but I know what you're selling and I'm not buying.

Oh boy, the irony of your ignorance is unbelievable. Are YOU aware of anything besides CNN, Fox News, and Hollywood? Tibet has been part of China before even Britain existed, much less the US and Canada.

See, the beauty of politics is that you can twist it whichever way you like. Have enough "allies" on your side, and you can invade Iraq, Afghan, even Yoguslavia, and pull it of as "human rights movement".

Do you have any idea of the truth behind Dalai and some of the extreme terroism acts his followers pull off in Tibet?

Yes, Chinese human rights are not on the same level as what we have here. But have you seen what the non-modern China was like? Their human rights levels are heaven like compared to the days of Mao (and Russia during Stallin). The real danger of that country is social instability from extreme differential in income and living qualities, and corruption. "Human rights" is simply a political playcard the West loves to use.

I'm sure you have read the Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels? If not, time to brush up on your history before acting cool on a forum. After reading it, tell me how many similarities you see between modern China, and the ideal Communism. Hint, it's nearly 0.

Yes, I simply love the many sources of independent information. You may want to dial the calender back to 2003, and see just how many people at the time, was absolute certain weapons of mass destruction existed in Iraq, and that world peace was in danger if an immediate attack did not take place... Some pretty accurate intel from a free media huh?

First, did you even both to look at my sig? Does that look like a gaming system to you?

Second, do realize not all writing is meant in the literal sense, as was my post you quoted. My point wasn't anything about what fighter pilots do, but rather, a nation's general confidence level, vesus varying levels of enemy defence system.

Ever seen a Russian fighter do a surprise ultra-low level fly-by right above an American Carrier, supposedly on full alert and aware of everything within hundred mile radius, on international waters? Or a Chinese stealth sub popping right up in the middle of a Carrier formation, totally undetected?

These are the unerving moments that our "free media" do not report on the States side. It's those "enemy abilities" that make pilots and captains reluctant to go to a war with Russia/China, despite American fighter/subs being better than Russian/Chinese.

Nuclear weapons is the ultimate deterrance from war, but a war is highly unlikely to escalade to those levels. Well before that, you're still fighting a fairly conventional warfare.

If you think un-manned and totally electronic warfare is ready for prime time anytime soon, you are the one that's been playing too many games.
