Also, have you tried updating your Sata III drivers?

I have tried both ATTO and AS SSD and I get roughly the same results. I have tried disabling and enabling write cache when SSD was plugged into both sata II and sata III ports, the results were the same. I have the latest Marvell driver from MSIs website which I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I have tried both IDE and AHCI modes in the bios and still the same thing.

However, originally when I first tested, I realized I did not have the drivers installed for sata III, I installed them and got an increase of about 40 MB/s (read) but that is all. Also, I installed Windows under IDE mode which is what the original test was ran under, then I changed it to AHCI by editing the registry. After doing these things, I got the same numbers.

I know I am missing something but I just can't seem to think of it.

So your sayin that you did this:

•Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msahci
•In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
•In the Value data box, type 0 [3 is default], and then click OK.

and then you also changed it to ahci in bios too right?

hmmm, never used that hd testing software since i've only tried hd tune. Can't make out the options from the screenshot but is there a settings or preference where you can see/change the size of the test? Because i remember when i was first using hd tune it was set to a moderate size test which was yielding around 250 read then when i changed it to the highest size which was 64mb or so, i then was getting the results of 350-375 read.

While that is a nice guide, I highly advise against disabling Prefetch and Superfetch. Doing so, slowed my drive way down.. made my boot time rediculously slow. I enabled them back and everything is fine again.

I am guessing you aren't changing the actual cable. There is a difference in them. SATA 6 has it's own cable and should be labled. The ones that came with my ASUS motherboard have white trim with sata 6 written on the plugs.

This also.

With my motherboard, black is Sata II and white cable is Sata III. Make sure you check that.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. The tool in the screenshots, seems to not have the option to change that. However, I also used ATTO which tests read and write speeds from very small to fairly large and displays the results in a graph and even the largest that it tested only showed a max read speed of around 165 MB/s.

You know what, I have always been told that there is no difference between sata 2 and 3 cables. I am fairly sure that I have all sata 2 cables plugged in, I will look through my stuff and see if I can find a white sata cable. Will post back after. Man, I thought I would have learned after being in college for so long to check and double check my sources of information for validity.

Pretty sure if there was no difference they wouldn't bother making different cables. Swap the cable out real quick and give it a run. It'll only take a few mins.
