Help With Purchasing A New Video Card

Thread Starter
Ok well I finally saved up enough money to buy a decent video card (No make or model preferred I am strictly here for performance) But what I am thinking about is should I buy the best 200 dollar card I find and use that or would I be pulling a slight but more performance by buying two 100 to 120 dollar card and sli'ing or crossfiring them? (Sorry I am only 15 and not yet literate in the graphics card world. Thanks for the help guys.

for the $120-139 Value I would go for the GTS 450. For the $159-200 Value go for the GTX 460 for the $200-299 Value go for the Radeon HD 5850 for the $300-399 Area I would go for the Radeon HD 5870 for the $400-500 Area HD 5970 for $500 and Higher GTX 580

Start with telling us what kind of games you play on your rig....

Also. Depending on which card you get you may also have to upgrade your power supply. 350w will not be enough for some video cards.

As far as make take a look at the spreadsheet in my sig for different warranty options.

If you will keep the GPU "forver" look for a lifetime warranty. If you will upgrade within 3 years look at the companies offering 3 year serial based warranties. They resell easier under this period since the second owner can have wanrranty.

In the $200 range new I would look at the 6850 or GTX460. Used look for a 5870.

Why would you even suggest the HD5xxx series? The 6xxx series is much better (this coming from someone with Crossfire 5870's )

Anyway at the $200 range I would pick up a 6850, should play most games on max settings with some AA.

You would need a better PSU though.
