Firewall and Control Box

Thread Starter
Wasn't sure where else to put this.

I want to build a small computer to act as a firewall and controller.

It would run Linux and act as the firewall for my network. As well as to be able to control the traffic and bandwidth control on my network, such as wireless only being able to have %50 priority over wired connections.

My questions I need are:

How powerful of a computer do I need for this?
Any special hardware or software?

Anything else I might need?

Any help is appretiated.

Thanks

depends on your network size. I have an untangle vm that has 700mb of ram, a two threads allocated to it, and it is fine for my network of 5 computer. I would say start off with 1-2Gb's of memory and a dual core if it's a small network. As for software, there's a number of options; just follow the hardware requirements for what you want to use.
