As newphrase said, if this is for recording, then ditch the PC style sound cards and get a proper audio interface that you can actually record studio grade music with

You'll need to budget at least $150 just for an audio interface worth buying that has the correct type of inputs


Edit: Forgot to mention, when recording, you don't want to record the extra noise of the PC, so you'll want to run the PC in a different room to where the mic is, or have a very very quiet PC.

Ok with the sound card out the door this thing just got a lot more affordable. Though this means my friend will need the extra money to get some external equipment.

I think I have everything I need, thanks to all that helped
