The 970 and 980 come with four heatpipe towers.

The cooler shown in some 2xxxK reviews is a three heatpipe tower.

I got 4.4 Ghz out of the stock cooler for a few minutes, but didn't survive a stability test. RUnning 4.2 Ghz now (ambients are low -- I live in Idaho, USA and it's winter currently).

Aren't you the programmer for Media Center Master? Hah funny running into you here. What Heat sink and fan do you all recommend if I want to oc to 4.5?
Will stock fan be good enough for running with stock speeds
post #15 of 17
Of course it will be enough. People buy aftermarket hsf just because they want lower noise, or better cooling, in most cases both.

Yep, that's me.

And I got it stable on stock to 4.3, but damn the ***** runs hot.

I couldn't recommend a cooler right now, as I haven't really shopped for any yet. I'm running the crummy stock cooler that came with the CPU and it seems to do alright for me so far. Not sure I need it to go higher, honestly.

Oh absolutely 100%.

I'm running stock fan at 4.3 GHz. This CPU is 3.4 GHz
