42 inch sony bravia, when using hdmi higher resoultions flicker.

So im using a 42 inch sony bravia hdtv (the older model) and a ati 5770. When i use vga i can only get up to 1360x768. When i switch to hdmi i can access the higher resolutions but anything past 1360x768 or 1600x900 it starts flickering a ton.

Even on 1360x768 it has a slight wave distortion on the outside right side of the screen.

I thought it was my hdmi cable since it was a 4 dollar rosswell but i also plugged in a hp one and it does the same.

Im really lost and im a total idiot when it comes to monitors and all this jazz so if anyone could chime in that would bea wesome.

Also in 1360 it wont expand and fill in the sides of the monitor (fine on vga)

Go into CCC and turn up the overscan to fill up the screen with a full resolution. What type of flicker are you experiencing? Is it like low frame rates, intermittent flashes, etc.?

So i believe the scaling is all the way up (it wont let me adjust the slider bar) just updated my CCC to make sure it was nothing to do with outdated drivers.

So its still not scaling and still getting a slight flicker shake effect on the right side of the screen.

Side note: I cannot go higher then 1360x768 now after updating CCC, although CCC reports the tvs max resolution is 1920x1080

Alright im stupid, i enabled it so i got it set at 1920x1080

Still cant get it to scale, its not flickering/jumping now except for the right side EDGE just a bit that i dont even notice it.

Main thing is getting this to scale because right now all i can do is swing my mouse around to get to the screen sections that arnt in view. i have about 6-8 inches of black on the sides of the screen view.

Check your TV zoom settings. On our remote there is a Zoom button that cycles through settings.
