Damn, no good 3x GPU SandyBridge Motherboards?

I cannot find any 16x / 16x / 16x PCI-E SandyBridge P67 motherboards. The most I can find is the 16x / 16x / 8x GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD7.

So if I wanted 3x-SLI 580's one of the cards would be seriously limited. If a mundane 5870 is already capped by PCI-E 8x, I am sure a over clocked 580 pushing 30-40% more bandwidth would be seriously limited.



So that effectively means P67 can't do top of the line 3x GPU solutions without a significant penalty. So I guess I have to wait for GTX 595's for Quad SLI or 6990's for Quad Crossfire if I want a 2600K system.

Either that or get a X58 system + an Intel 990X which can support 3x 16x PCI-E or wait for Ivy Bridge in Q4.

What a disappointment I was ready to pull the trigger on SandyBridge 2600k + 3x 580's.

thats only %2 at stock, so at most you might be bottlenecked to like %95 of full potential on that one card.

Wow seriously? Even overclocked its still only around 3~5% slower than its x16.0 counterpart.

If you could afford it and this is what you wanted, you would be a fool not to buy it because one GPU is at x8.

Unless you want an Ivy and wait for it, there is going to be little difference in terms of GPU performance.

I think you are mistaken, we aren't anywhere near close to utilizing the full bandwith of PCIe x16.

A 580 running a PCIe x8 will only net a perfomance loss of about 1~2% also.

3rd, I believe when you crossfire / SLI only the first card runs in PCIe x16 where the others run at x8. Though I may be mistaken, that means there are no true x16 / x16 / x16 boards. I'm pretty sure this is due to the deesign of the chiip.

This just about sums up the fact that it shouldnt make a difference

That still shouldn't come in the way of you using two GTX 480 cards in SLI on a motherboard with electrical x8 PCI-E slots. You shouldn't be worried about using these cards on a PCI-E 1.1 motherboard, either.

You are correct about performance loss, but plenty of boards are triple/quad x16 channel. Mine for instance is triple 16 with an 1x8 and 1x4.

But with say the 15% loss of performance on the third card, how does that effect Tri-SLI? Do all three cards get knocked down to the 85% performance? Having one of the cards at such a different speed has to negatively effect 3 way SLI somehow I'd imagine.

Its not 15%, and would just be primarily be the last card if there was any performance lost. Look you are worried about absolutely nothing.
