80 Degrees Celsius too hot?

Thread Starter
so I was rendering a couple of videos and noticed that my cpu temp was abou 80 degrees Celsius for around 10-15 minutes. is it ok to have it at this temperature for short periods of time or should I look into cooling? when I'm not rendering videos it is around 40 degrees Celsius

Yeah that's kind of toasty. What kind of cooling do you have?

The CPU will shut off if it gets too hot.

The stock cooler does get kind of hot. If you buy an aftermarket cooler like a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus, the temps will drop a lot.

Most likely yes, it would shut off to prevent damage, but I would still recommend a better cooler. Cpus or just electronics in general typically run better when at cooler temps.

strange to see an 860 so hot at stock speeds. it can handle those kind of temps(not sure for how long tho), the tj max is 99c. however i dont recommend running it that hot.
does your case have enough airflow?

EDIT: was just looking at pictures of your case, seems like you have plenty of case cooling. not sure why your cpu is so hot

Stock cooler is incredibly inadequate. My stock one idled at 33* and loaded over 85* under Prime95.

My NH-D14 idled 24* stock and loaded 56*.

At that price, hell no. The Corsair H50/H70 barely compete with some of the high-end heatsinks. Personally I would rather get a cheap kit by XSPC.
