Coretemp should read the TJMax straight from the CPU.

It was a fun day on a dud chip.

What chip was that on xinoxide?

I set up core temp to auto shut off my pc if the temp got above 90C for some benching at a little above 5.3GHz. 3d mark 11's cpu test made it hit that instantly. devil.gif lol

Sorry, it was a 2500K. I have only seen a small handful of 2600k's and up.

Mine kept protecting itself and I couldn't go over either 98 or 96 even with the thermal protection turned off. It was fun to see what a chip would really take as far as abuse before it went back to intel.

New chip folds along nicely at 4.2 GHz, 1.2v and 48-50C. Decided I should be nicer to this one since the protection plan only replaces it once.

well, yeah my chip was throttling, but it couldn't keep up with the stock heatsinks inability to dissipate the wattage.
