i picked up this combo from microcenter

Phenom™ II X2 560 Black Edition c3
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...tml?sku=982603

785GM-P45 AM3 mATX
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...tml?sku=822429

using 1 dimm from sig rig
set timings to 9-9-9-24

fresh install of xp, and updated bios, and drivers

windows will occationally crash, no bsod just colors go funky and freeze
can be doing anything watching dvd's, copying files across the lan
with prime95 blend will crash about 5-10secnds in

tried underclocking cpu to 3000
makes no difference
set the ram to 1333
it does better, prime makes it to about the 2nd-3rd test before crashing

cpu cores stay under 45c with stock hsf

cpu voltage is 1.44-1.46, amd says 0.875-1.40V
mobo has no options to go lower, 1.41-2.0v - auto is 1.44

opinions on returning the mobo/cpu or both?

Vid drivers installed? Either onboard or vid card.
Set the ram voltage manually?
Memtest the stick?
What PSU? Tested?

im using onboard video, ati 4200 with latest drivers

psu is a cheapo 600w, 24a 12v rail

the dimm works fine in sig rig

the ram voltage was the problem
it was 1.4, set it to 1.75 and its alot better, even at 1600
+rep

but, when i move the dimm to the 2nd channel (slots 2 or 4)
it gives bsod right after post, no chance for safe mode or os select
will go to bios fine tho

update: ran prime95 for over 1 hour (2 loops) with no errors
Thanks Mr.Scott

Probably needs a certain slot for a single stick.
Glad it's up and running.
