win 7 startup time slow

Thread Starter
after being thoroughly annoyed with black ops crashes i decided to call activision and tell them how their game sucked. well the guy i talked to had my check and uncheck some things in the msconfig startup tab.

now when i boot up the computer seems to do a whole lot of nothing, it boots just as fast but when i get to the desktop steam wont start for about a minute along with msi afterburner or anything else i try to run for that matter. google chrome will run though.

also just had verizon fios put in, could it have anything to do with the programs the installer put on my comp?

Would you mind posting your msconfig? Both services hiding microsoft related. & your start up items please.

The Verizon stuff they put on your computer is barely anything. Just a few .html files etc.

Why'd you edit your msconfig in the first place?

Specifically, what did you edit?

If the normal startup is checked, then anything you changed in msconfig won't matter. You want selective startup, then go through the services and startup and uncheck what you don't want to run at startup.
Also how full is your SSD? The closer it is to it's capacity the worse it performs. I'd say keep it under %80 max.

44 of 80 free.

its not that anything is slow, i boot to the desktop in under 30 seconds but when it gets there nothing will load. its not like things are loading slow more like their not being loaded at all, then out of blue (2 minutes later) windows will ask me if msi is allowed to make changes and it then boots

Oh, you have UAC enabled? Turn it off in the user settings in the control panel.
