just a quik one for you

i currently have 2 gtx 280 oc's in sli.
would a single gtx 580 be better?
how about a single 580 and keep a 280 for physics
and give the spare 280 for my missis to upgrade from her gtx 8800

just throwing it out there. as i got cash burning a hole!
and would like to upgrade if its gonna perform better
gaming res will be 1920/1200

The GTX 580 will be faster especially for minimum frame rates, high AA settings, and higher resolutions, not to mention DX11 goodness. No worrying about SLI problems, compatibility, heat issues either as the 5xx series runs relatively cool.

A single GTX 580 would be faster in every aspect regardless of the resolution. I would keep a GTX 280 for physx or as a backup card just in case you have to RMA the 580 or when you decide to upgrade in the future.

GTX 580 will be way faster period. keeping a gtx 280 for physics might be a good idea depending on the games you play.

I say go for the 580 and give one of the two 280's to your missus. That way, you get a brand new toy, so does she, and she might be really grateful

Go for the 580 and DX 11!!! If you're feeling brave sell both 280's and SLI 580's! The performance of 1 580 card will out perform you 280 SLI setup..no brainer here bro.

thanks for replys.. any more input would be fab as i got tomorro off and might go get something..
or even go red? ati got some awesome cards out.
used to be red but got fed up with drivers.
and having ati could mess up useing a 280 for physics
im not to bothered about green being more cash
and i may get another layer to sli anyway.
i just want it to be even better than it is now and with out the sli for a while
this is the site i will buy from . its a few miles away so i can drop in

nvidia http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...80fermiseries/

and some ati http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...ihd6900series/

One thing to think about go xfire with the 6950's and flash the bios to unlock them to 6970 performance and save alot of $$$$ and give your wife the 280 sli cards. I have never really had a problem with ATI's Drivers since i owned my 9600 pro AIW, I don't see what all the fuss is about with drivers, both companies have their good and bad drivers.

Remember a happy wife = a happy life!!!

Just my 2 cents.
