2600k: Anything above H70 overkill?

So, the H70 is the best stand-alone cooler.

Now, for 5.0Ghz 24/7 on an i7-2600k - is there a need for something better than an H70, as in, a dedicated watercooling system?

I think that Silver Arrow form Thermalright is? Or Spire Thermax Eclipse II.

I wouldn't doubt that you can keep temps under 80 in IBT with H70 @ 5000Mhz, I am building someone a system with the 2600k and am using the H70, I am interested to see what temps are like...

Stll if I was using the 2600k in my own system I would probably still use a block like the EK I currently use, why not keep your temps under 40c.

Like I said, though, I want to keep it at 5.0Ghz 24/7.

If anyone's got an H70 on a 2600k, post some 24/7 results!

All of them trade blows with each other. H70 is just more practical.

God. CPUs clock so high this days.

And thinking that when I managed to get 4.2GHz stable on my bought-the-launch-day 1055T it was da shiz...

I bet a high end cooler, kinda like Silver Arrow + 2x Scythe GTs and decent airflow on the case will make that i7 be cool enough.

Water might be the perfect stuff for it, EK Supreme HF + 240 rad with an EX 4.0 pump... And that's all :p

But a Silver Arrow will definitely be able to cool the beast down.

I think that 72.6C is the max TCASE_MAX Case temperature.

I found this interesting: Calculated Tj (assuming TjMax = 99C).
Under the fan profiles.

Here is all the thermal specifications: http://download.intel.com/design/pro...nex/324644.pdf

I wish Intel would just layout the specifications in an easier to read format.

IMO anything over the H70 (which is pushing it) is overkill with these new chips. These CPU's seem to hit a wall at ~4.6 - 4.8Ghz and start to need a lot more voltage to go higher. Even if you are able to overclock it to 5.5Ghz, and nice and chilly at 45C with a custom water loop it wont matter when you are running 1.65v through it.

I really always watercooled, but the person I am building the Sandy Bridge for just isn't capable of maintaing it.

I think the reason I choose the H70 over megahalems was the noise the ease of use as mentioned by previous posters. And it looks better IMO.

Edit: IDK y, but 1366 always seemed to overclock better for me at lower temps given the same voltage, but I do not believe this is the case with SB.

I've got my H70 up and running on my 2600k...

2600k @ 4.4GHz @ 1.3v:

Load temps: 57,62,63,61 steady for 2+ hours on prime95.

I'm going to push it up 4.6 tomorrow, hopefully all I need is 1.35v

The H70 is definitely worth it!
