93% RAM usage/load..quick question?

Thread Starter
My RAM hits 93% around full load while playing World of Warcraft.

Does this indicate I may need more GB of RAM, or because it is still NOT 100% in use, I still have room and should not worry?

Thank you.

Check your background apps/memory usage.

If your at that much and not able to cut anything, then you may want to consider jumping to 8Gb. I multitask so much that I needed it lol.

WoW on its own will NOT use anywhere near that. You must have several things running in the background at the same time.

His background apps shouldn't be taking up that much either. Unless you've got Photoshop or your browser with many tabs open.

Alt-Tab out and C-A-D to see if it's really WoW taking up all that memory.

EDIT: If your system is hanging up on pagefile swaps with the HD, then yes upgrade, if not then you're good to go. I'm good with most all games and I've got only 2gb. The only one that's given me an issue is Warhead.

Hmm, thanks so much for your responses guys.

Well, I alt + tabbed out of WoW. It says 3.72GB of Memory in use via task manager.

I closed out everything else, windows messenger, CPUhardware monitor, nothing else is open, besides this firefox window which is letting me type right now.

Anyway, CPU usage is now 24%. so, thats about 92% RAM in use.

That just seems really freaking high ***? I remember running Call of duty moder warfare 2 or even battlefield and I think it hit maybe mid 2.00gb maybe 3.00 sometimes.

Well, my motherboard does default RAM to 1333Mhz, and I have it at 1600Mhz which is considered overclocked. BUT I did stabilize it by making CPUNB 1.1375 which after 4+ hours of prime95 was stable with no errors.

So, maybe this is normal or not? Do I need some more RAM?

It's never going to be completely 100%, and if it is, you have more problems than just that.
Anything over ~85% or so and I'd be looking at more memory.

If you are still using a page file you will notice a performance increase by going to a higher quantity of RAM (mainly loading, not having to swap data to the HDD).

I notice it fluctuates alot. If I tab out its on 94%, but after a few minutes, it drops to 1.58GB in use.

Well, does it matter than when I click on the "services tab" on the Windows task manager, it shows ALOT of processes, like a long list, but only 47 are running?

I can always reformat, or just buy more RAM, just making sure its not like a virus or something.

check the task manager process tab, sort by mem usage

see whats being the ram hog and kill it

Hmm, that's interesting.

Did what ya' said, ffejrxx, and this program that was running in the background was listed as the largest, "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Device", or wmpnetwk.exe.

I was hovering around 83% RAM usage just on my desktop with NOTHING loaded.

Then I closed the "wmpnetwk.exe"; And, down to 20% usage instantly, SEEMS much more NORMAL!!!

Any idea what the hell this is and how can I remove it so I don't have to turn it off on boot up?

Either way, I'll just reformat if not.

THANK YOU ALL for your replies regardless, I rather not buy RAM if I really don't need it.

Let me know though.

BTW, even when I close it manually, it reappears within like 30 or 60 seconds again and RAM usage jumps up to 90% on desktop with NO programs open.
