Safe to charge ipod with phone charger?

Hey guys I was wondering if it's safe to charge my iPod touch with my Droid phone charger? By that I mean unplugging the usb cable that plugs into the Droids AC to usb adapter and plugging the ipod cable in instead. I just don't want to damage my ipod by giving it too much power.

Thanks.

Check the output ratings on the back of the chargers, both should be 5V - that's essential.

They should also be in the region of 500mA to 1A, that's not quite so important to be the same but definitely 1A max. If you can avoid it, don't use the Droid one if it's higher than the iPhone one, but if you're desperate it should be fine.

I'm really not desperate I just was wondering if it will cause damage. I'll look at Apple's product and compare it to my Droid charger. Thanks.

Edit:
The Apple USB Power Adapter outputs 12V, 1.0A.
The Droid charger outputs 5.1V, 850mA.

So I'm guessing it's safe.

Why is that? I haven't yet and I'm not really in any rush either but my girlfriend wants to do the same thing.

Ok so I did a bit more reading, apparently Apple have changed between 12V only, 12V and 5V to 5V support....only Apple eh?

Which version iPod Touch is it?

We both have 4th generations. Her charger is 5.1V also but 700mA.

So you both have the same iPod Touch, but you've got a 12V charger and she's got a 5V charger? That's messed up.

Well, looks like I spoke to soon (just being careful) and it'll work then - I'm way past understanding Apple's design decisions. laugher.gif

Both of our charges are 5.1V actually but hers is 700mA vs. my 850mA. Both are less than Apple's charger which puts out 1A though.
