Use old XP hard drive on new rig?

So I feel like a total boob for not knowing the answer to this. So I'll just come out with it.

I want to be able to use my old XP installed HD on my new SB rig (details in sig) until the new gen SSDs come out in 2-3 months.

I didn't want to wipe the hard drive completely and install Windows 7 or even a fresh XP install (I don't even think I have the disk anymore) because I want to have the drive intact in case I need to use it in the old machine again. Plus the HD is on it's last legs anyways (it BSODs a lot).

I also didn't want to spend money on a small HDD just for just temporary use.

What's worse is I didn't have enough foresight to partition any of my other drives ahead of time to even support a fresh OS install w/o total format.

I have 3 HDDs: 320GB (boot/apps) 1TB storage + 2TB storage both at about 70% capacity not in RAID.

What are my options? I assume I can't just plop another system's main boot drive into my new rig can I?

Nvm, I just bought another 2TB HD on newegg for $80 that I'll use for the temporary OS. I'll probably need the extra storage anyway soon, my 3TB is filling fast.

well for the record xp through 7 has the ability to use the hdd in a different setup so long as your run sys prep it removes the hard ware I.Ds and then when you boot up the new machine it reruns the last bit of the windows setup and installs the new drivers.

other wise not doing sysprep would cause it to bsod on boot up cause windows has a security lock out so you can't just drop the drive in a different machine like win 98 did.

so syprep > move to new machine > small bit of setup > your old system is running on new hardware.
