short stroking

would i see a benefit from short stroking my raid 0? currently the access time is 13ms for the whole drive (2TB) but i use very little of this space, ie approximately a few 100 gb, if i made a partition of 300gb, i would get faster access times? would this equate to noticeable performance increase?

No it wont be very noticeable.

What I'd suggest, is do a short stroke partition for windows and programs, like 64-128GB partition (you want it to be as small as possible). Put the games you play the MOST on that partition, or whatever file you use the most. Use the rest of the space for data storage (like movies, music).Otherwise the short stroke becomes useless. The second partition should not be used unless YOU are using it. You can also install games that you dont play often on the second parition but those games will lose performance.

This way it guarantees a speedy computer, and speedy launch of programs and games that you use most often. But again it wont be very noticeable, unless you are a Chuck Norris.

so is it worth it or not? does it actually boost performance? if ive defragged and optimized, all my files are on the outside track anyway, so will this increase access time if i do short stroke? and how do i go about doing this? i guess i go into the raid setup and only select a small amount of space?

Would he (or I, in the same position) see any noticable improvement partitioning ~20 GBs for windows, and having another (slightly slower) separate partition for games, oft utilized programs, and the like, and then a large partition for media and such?

Or should we do as you've suggested captain and save all the stuff we want to speed up in a ~100gb partition (windows + games).

IMHO OP i would suggest trying it, since it wont negatively effect you in any way. You can still utilize AFAIK the slower partition of the drive for media and such.
