I don't know what the hell I'm talking about now haha! Can't you link your main computer to a server that will process/render the image? Because the server can hold more memory than a personal use computer?
Ya why cant you just use a PS3 to render your images, it has a CELL CPU.

Well, My point was that yes, but because a server can hold more RAM, i just thought it would be a good idea to linking your main PC to that and share the memory to render photo's if it's going to use soo much memory?

Ahh well. I don't know, >Me no do photo editing<

I have 8gigs right now, was going to go straight to 16 at the beginning. I was messing with some filters in Photoshop last night, while rendering for the first time, my PC lagged to the point that I felt like I was on my dell precision 390.
Another 8gb will only run me about 99 bucks if I catch G. skills on sale again.

Every CPU, except for multi CPU boards, needs it's own RAM and can not share from a main source.

This means that every machine needs 24 GB of RAM, not just one.

This also means that if you want a lot of renderpower you are going to spend a lot of money on high end rigs.

I currently own 6 core i7 970 rigs with 12GB of ram. Here are my latest additions:

A cell processor is vastly inferior for my needs. If I want a reasonable renderfarm I am going to need at least 10 highend core i7 machines and 1 dual socket machine (like the SR2) to have some production power.

I had 12gb and recently took out one of the 6gb kits, leaving me with 6gb. Just doing that increased my performance dramatically. I then tweaked bios more and its blazingly faster than it ever was.

More tho I want to know why with 12gb of ram my ssd had 8.72gb available, and now that I took it down to 6gb of ram, I have 13.2 gb available?? what the heck is up with that?

Well that is weird. I never ever noticed any performance increase/decrease with less RAM if I stayed withing the RAM's capacity limits.

I think there is something else going on, perhaps it wasn't running at it's rated speed before?
