[Zotac] Changes GPU warranty on 1/1/2011

While making the GPU warranty spreadsheet in my sig I see Zotac made changes to their GPU warranty from 2 years to what is below. It looks like they are becoming more competative. Would this help convince anyone to buy their cards?

Edit, add the quote below.

"B.Warranty Duration
•Warranty begins on the original date of purchase. Warranty claims may only be filed after the product is no longer covered by the vendor's warranty or return policy. A copy of the original invoice will be required as proof of purchase.
i.ZOTAC USA offers a standard 2-year warranty on all video card products and a standard 1-year warranty on all motherboard solutions and mini-PCs. Warranty begins on the original date of purchase.
ii.With product registration, the product is covered under the Extended Warranty. Product registration must be done within 30 days of original purchase. The Extended Warranty begins on the original date of purchase."

460 gets 3 years but 460 AMP! gets lifetime limited? I'd put down $20 for a lifetime limited I guess if I was going with Zotac

As if anyone here keeps a GPU for more than 3 years...

Think about it though... are you going to keep that card for 3 years? no.
so having a life time warranty is pointless...

I was under the impression that all of their graphics cards used to carry a lifetime limited warranty... which would mean that this is a reduction in services. That said, I rarely keep a card longer than a year anyway. My personal record is 18 months

Just because they aren't in our main rig, doesn't mean we don't keep them...For example, right next to me is my Athlon XP 2600+ and in my cupboard is a Pentium MMX 200.

I dont know... Based on this statement I think their warranty was 2 years.

"ZOTAC USA offers a standard 2-year warranty on all video card products and a standard 1-year warranty on all motherboard"

I like serial based warranty like my 2x ASUS GTX570's. If I sell them in 2 years the second owner will feel confident they still have a 1 year warranty.

Why is every company changing their warranties all of a sudden?
It seems that Zotac's warranty is on par with EVGA's as of 2011. Well, at least for enthusiast cards. This makes me feel better about my purchase for sure. Now, as long as the RMA process is smooth should I require it I'll be a happy camper.

Serial based warranties are indeed the best, I'll agree there for sure Perhaps they had segregated their warranty service as they do now and had offered 2 year warranties on the low-end GPU models. If so, then it's a move that works in our favor, yes

Every Zotac card I had looked at or purchased in the past had claimed a lifetime warranty, hence my skepticism... but I have never purchased a budget Zotac card.

Just to clarify my commentary pertains only to the graphics card warranties, I've only had minimal experience working with their motherboards.
