My Dragon Age impression and critics

I play a lot of RPGs both from Bethesda and Bioware. Mass Effect 1&2, Morrowind,Oblivion,Fallout 3&New Vegas etc..

Unfortunately i didn't have chance to check the Dragon Age until few days ago. My first impression is good. The game's nice but has some downsides.

The character creator is awesome, very detailed (there are even tattoos!).I also like multiple starts according to my preferred background.

One of the cool things is the Tactics option. It is like coding Microsoft Office Macros . Or making formulas in Excel. Makes the companions very smart if you know how to use the feature. The other cool feature is playing as your companions.

But i must say that i really disliked the graphics, especially the characters are looking more like McDonalds toys. And the lightning on them is not bound to environment. This makes them look very like umm as if they're not actually there. For instance, i'm at the camp and it's night, we're all in a conversation with my companions but they are almost shining whereas there should only be dim light on them. Another example, i'm walking in the sun out in the open then i enter a building but the lightning on me never changes. This i think spoils the immersion a lot.

Another thing bugging me about this game is the lack of my own voice. How come Bioware put this feature in Mass Effect series but not in Dragon Age? I'd really like to see my character talks and i'd like to see her face while she's interacting with others. This is another thing killing the realism for me. This is also reason why i prefer Mass Effect over Fallout 3.

Remember Dragon Age was in development before Mass Effect was, and so they built that engine around the style of conversations they had. And that was why the graphics engine was a bit old, but I thought it looked good, especially the char models.
