[CNBC] AMD CEO Dirk Meyer Resigns, Surprising Investors - Page 7

AMD just got a big contract with Microsoft for the next XBox as well...

I don't think this has anything to do with Bulldozer's performance on him leaving, probably some investors were losing money and forced a quick change not realizing that AMD has big things this year from a technical standpoint. Alot of these stockholders are just noobs with money.

More like blind greedy fools.

Let's hope AMD keeps doing well.

Blind greedy foolish shareholders probably noticed the absence of AMD chips inside Android phones and tablets while Nvidia's Tegra 2 is powering most of the Android tablets, phones and even inside the Tesla S at CES.

I don't think his resignation will have much impact on the company, but I sold my AMD shares this morning. I've been holding onto it for several months and made next to no profit, so I'm moving on. It's a great long term hold, but I'm too impatient to wait it out.

Was planning on getting some stock for some time, but news like this saddens me.

Well if AMD stocks do drop to like $5-6, I'll buy some. Damn it I should have bought Nvidia stocks while they were under $10, I would have more than doubled my money in no time.

Anandtech thinks Dirk was forced to resign because he would block a buyout by Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC). This Dhabi company is what owns the spun-off Global Foundries.

Dirk was doing a good job and helped to turn around AMD in the last few years.
Once again...

Yeah it looks like Meyer's resignation has nothing to do with Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer. You guys already know that AMD is bringing back the FX branding, meaning that they're confident in their new product. This looks like it has more to do with AMD's next to nonexistent mobile computing business. Or what Duckie said above...
