I requested an RMA and received the number. The card is under MSI's new 3 year limited warranty for cards manufactured January 2010 and beyond (this card is Jan 2010).
The card functions normally but the fan is annoyingly loud now. It sounds like its grinding on some plastic inside. Sometimes throughout the day the card will sound fine; the card will just have a sound of flowing air that will increase or decrease based upon fan speed. The other times it sounds like this, Card in the video is running idle with fan speed 35% and temp 31-33 C.
When you see my tap the fan like that its because this problem first happened a few months ago. I assumed the fan was making contact with plastic so I tapped it and it seemed to go back "in place". Now the problem has arise again and tapping it won't do anything, hopefully it didn't worsen the situation (it didn't before).
This is my second MSI 5850 OC. The first was from Newegg and was DOA. I'll have to pay shipping AGAIN if I send this is because this time it will be just strictly MSI.
Is there anyway I can fix this myself without voiding the warranty? I don't want to be without a computer for over a month with a card that is not dead. I just bought a HAF X and XSPC Rasa 750 RS360 and I don't know want to wait a long time to build that.
