as someone said up there... you can't use 120hz i think. I have a 32" 60hz sharp aquos, and sit < 3 feet from it... good monitor. 24" real 120hz monitor right beside it for gaming tho

The only issue you may have is text size, which can be fixed easily by changing the dpi settings. Looks like a decent TV to use as a monitor. I use a 32in toshiba as a monitor. I really like it and dont want to go back to a regular monitor. if you like the TV then go for it, you really have no reason not to. Worse comes to worse, you at least replaced your old TV.
