do 5870s use a full x16?

Basically I want to know if I got another 5870 would them both running in x8 hinder performance? I know very few cards use a full x16 but I just want to be positive.

It won't hinder performance. 5870's will only lose about 1%-2% performance overall in 8x. It won't be noticable.

I can't find the chart showing percentages, but here is a chart showing FPS at different PCIe bandwith lanes:

To answer your question, no there is a 1~2% difference between x8 and x16

FOND IT!!:

Soooooo each card will be "bottlenecked" by 2% (yes I know this isn't the correct term for it, but my brain is failing me right now )

Answer: No. Even in Crossfire, the difference is still minuscule.

In terms of your question about x8 lanes, not much of a loss at all tbh,i did get chance last year to test this out while swapping out a motherboard and found that theres hardly any loss.

Just think for one minute what the Asus Ares is and this in a way is a partial answer to your question about full use of x16 lane

But if i was you i wouldnt bother with another 5870 unless its for Eyefinity as you wouldnt see much improvement in gaming on a single monitor unless you got a better cpu.

Imo sell your 5870 and buy a newer card like a 6950 or 580

I am actually selling my main parts and getting SB. I just asked the question like I did to make it easier because most p67 boards are x8 so I was wondering if the 2x x16 is worth the extra money. I just got this 5870 and am completely satisfied with it. Plays everything I need it to on ultra settings. Another one would be for in a year when there is some game that I need a gpu boost for.

Cool,i understand,nice upgrade.

I have a 5870 and yes they still play most games at 1920x1200 with high settings,i have had 5870 crossfire twice now.

First time was on a rampage extreme with qx9650 and i sold my second card to a guy on here soon after as it was basically sat in my rig unused as my cpu was not powerfull enough, and was poor as well

Second time was just before christmas and wow what a difference with an i7,wow,only sold it as wanted to max out my sons pressents at christmas.

I just checked my photobucket to see if i still had the screenshots to compare x8 lanes vs. x16 lanes, must of deleted the shots though.

Did find a shot of 5870 x-fire on my rampage extreme with qx9650,scored 27k on the gpu as opposed to 34k (check sig link)on my i7 rig,big difference.

If i ever see another 5870 for the right price and ive got the money id have one again for crossfire.

Goodluck with the new build anyway.

i am wondering as well and have seen a benchmark somewhere that points out when you game at 2560 x 1600 the 8x bandwidth limit is hugeee. In Crysis 8x is only half the fps of 16x, it's hard to find right now but I just want to point it out. In 1080p res the difference is only 1-2% as you've already seen from other posts

If I see another reference one floating around the marketplace Ill either buy it for myself or pm you if the price is right
