Sandy Bridge up and running...need help

Thread Starter
Built it last night:

2600K
Gigabyte UD7
SLI EVGA 580
8 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600
2 WD Black 1TB
Silverstone 1000W Silver rated PSU
Silverstone Fortress FT02B
Thermalright Venomous X

Couple issues that maybe you guys can help me with:

When I boot up, my G15 keyboard only has power 1/10 of the time, thus not allowing me to go into bios. I have 6 fans plugged into my MOBO (for better cabling purposes). When I was first messing around, the system shut off, immediately came back on then shut off again. I unplugged front USB and it did not happen again. If I use my older keyboard, it works everytime during bootup to get me into the BIOS.

I have Windows installed, just messing around. I am moving large chunks of data around (150 GB at a time) and during this, my system feels sluggish, especially Firefox. Is this normal? I am just sort of paranoid that something might be wrong with my system. Temps: CPU - 22 Idle, 41 Load.

I really hope its not a short. When I installed my Heatsink, (Thermalright Venomous X) it was supposed to come with 4 white washers, it did not. This did not seem like a problem, as the screws had little plastic rises built on them, if that makes sense. The screws went down as far as they could anyway.

I hope I do not have a short, but it seems unlikely, as I have it OC'd to 4.0 GHz (just the multi, no voltages or anything) and its been running for 12 hours now, no shutdowns or anything. I plugged in both my iPhones (to charge) and my 3D glasses, just trying to push my USB. So I am not sure, any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS I'm not a noob, but by far not an expert.

You need the white plastic washers to prevent your motherboard from grounding on the case. Make sure you have the latest bios for your board. Oh and where did you buy your CPU and what stepping did you get?

screws from the back plate came up through the mobo, then I had to fit like another screw on it, the bottom part that screwed down on the mobo had a little plastic piece built right onto it. It has not shut down or anything since, so IDK...my computer store is quite far and I would REALLY like to avoid going back as I do not drive.

I have the ud4 and have the same issues. At least half the time my keyboard (which is ps2) does not have power and I can't go into the bios.

Also I have some weird driver issue with my mouse. Upon loading windows both of my mouse buttons are like a right click, it drives me nuts. After about 30 seconds to a minute (when the driver finally kicks in I guess) it starts acting normal.

And I notice the thing you said about it turning on then shutting off real quick. It does it all the time especially when OC'ing. If the OC is no good it will sometimes reboot 5 or 6 times where I can't even see a screen to hit delete. Then I finally get the post screen, and my stupid keyboard has no power so it reboots again.

Its very annoying.

Ya I am having problems with my mouse too. I have not done much OC'ing, but am looking at this guide:

will keep you posted if I have any weird OC problems like that.

Hmm two people with this issue already? I'll def keep an eye out for this on my UD7.

i don't have it but I also don't use the USB 3.0 ports because i don't wanna install the drivers. I would rather use the P67 PCh USB ports. I am going to enable USB 3.0 Turbo mode, and see if I can re create this problem. I did find that sometimes I would get the boot up screen and it was so unstable it would just freeze. On my UD7 I can see the POST code, so I know what its hanging at, usually hangs at 4E which is screen on, and its CPU Cache initialize which means the CPu is too cold, its a cold bug.

This is why I'm afraid of getting anything Gigabyte. I've been on a losing streak with them for a while. Two people, hopefully not more.
