Got a T2i!

Thread Starter
Found one for a great deal on the POTN forums. It's just the standard kit with 18-55 lens. Plan on getting a couple 8GB cards and then one 32GB for video.

Even though this is my first DSLR camera, should I buy the nifty-fifty right away?

Sounds like you have what you need for now right there unless you want to grab a zoom lens. Congrats on the deal. I only have enough for of the basic Cannon DSLR lol.

How much corn did you have to trade to get it?

In all seriousness though, congrats!

Just a bit of a warning though: be sure to focus on the sustained writing speeds and not the burst speeds of your memory card (i.e. just because it's Class 10 doesn't mean it's fast). Also, the camera can only shoot video for I think it was ~30 second blocks, so something to be aware of as well

And I think you should play around with the camera first before you buy the 50mm f/1.8. It's an excellent lens for sure, but you should figure out if you'd need it first for the sort of stuff you'll be doing. The advantages of the 50mm f/1.8 are that it has better low light performance and DoF, so see if you need those extra benefits before buying the lens.

im pretty sure teh t2i can do at least 7minute of continuous video recording....

gratz on the camera.

theres no need to buy a 50/1.8 right away, play with the camera first, you might want a ultrawide or a telephoto before buying the 50mm

About ~128bu, give or take Was $765 total.

The card I want to get is this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220452

I read somewhere that the t2i captures a maximum of 4GB. Not sure if that was strictly for 1080p or what.

I think I might hold off for a bit on the 50mm. An ultrawide could come in handy, farm machinery is pretty big

Might have been 4GB, like I said I could be wrong. My 50D doesn't do video. My bad

I'll vouch for the Patriot LX memory cards. I have one in my L110, I know it's not that taxing, but editing on the card and transferring is much faster over the class 2 card I was using lol.

And thanks for the spelling catch lol

For memory cards, I never feel comfortable buying the discount brands... I figure it's never worth risking the loss of good (or important) photos, so I only buy memory from the big names: Sandisk and Lexar. Kingston is also very good, and I've had great experiences with PNY. Beyond that, though, I'm wary of brands like Transcend and Patriot as far as longevity is concerned. Sure, they work, but I've heard enough stories of cards getting corrupted.

That's good to know, thanks.

What would you guys suggest for a little tripod(like to put on a desk or something). Would that gorilla pod or whatever be good?
