The tower type cooler is not the one you get with the cpu.Intel sent each to reviewers.
Retail is the one on the right in this picture.

lol.@ this thread. Here is the deal some CPUs love voltage, got a friend that runs at 1.6v 24/7 at 5.1ghz, i personally can do 5.1ghz on much lower voltage. Vcores are different, and I bet not everyone will be bale to hit over 4.5-4.7ghz, that is just my guess. I think these chips OCing will be hit or miss. For me hit and miss, same batch CPUs two very different OCes, one at 5.2ghz one at 4.8ghz but both D1 stepping which all do 4.8ghz at least.

so when I go to microcenter what batch id do I ask for?

Yes I'm also looking forward to seeing more results. I'm sure not all these SB "k" chips will be able to clock 5Ghz+. It will be interesting to see how high people run them at and with what kind of (load) voltages for 24/7 use.

I am able to get my 2600K over 4.8 GHz stable on air, temps max in the high 60's with Zalman Performa. I tried to go 5 Ghz, but got BSOD. I have left HT on. I am sure I can get over 4.9 with a little higher BCLK, but that seems to be the limit. Not sure if it will go higher turning off HT, but I don't want to turn it off so I am not going to try. D2 stepping.

I'm really sad that Intel didn't include the tower...

about how much better should the 2600k be over the 2500k? overclocking wise. I am a gamer so unless the 2600k can overclock severly better 2500k for me it is

Your core #1 is much cooler than the others...mine is too (Load=63/69/69/67 @ 4.6)

I guess that's normal then, I had been worried...

Essentially nothing. You have to want the hyper threading and/or the extra cache. If not, get the 2500k. Without hyperthreading the 2600K might average slightly higher (up for debate, that would take lots of info).

I do encoding, transcoding, etc. while running other programs. Hyper threading comes in handy. Yet for just a gaming CPU, you want the 2500K.
