However, I'm curious if you guys are throttling under heavy load with high overclocks b/c the linpack results on gflops look abysmal. A 5ghz i7 920 should be around 70flops using linpack (ibt or linx).

I'd like to see a i7-920 @ 5Ghz make five passes of IBT in the first place.

The others seem to have lower Flops than me, even at the same or higher clocks.

I'm on water though and loads on the core during those runs was 46C max.

I got 68 Flops, my 1090T at 4.5Ghz got 76 on DDR2.

But then my i5-2500k is was fast anyway so in the end what do flops really mean, other than nothing?

I was trying to bring it to the attention of SB owners b/c it seemed odd that the gflops appeared low for when the overclock scaled higher. There are very few benchmarks that dole out the same amount of power draw that linpack will, which is reason why it would show up in IBT or LINX versus cinebench or superpi, etc.

Assuming the architecture didn't take a step backwards from bloomfield there should have been slight increases in linpack testing.

Not mine but google images ftw.

Probably has something to do with the 2000 MHz cas 8 ram that is $100 per 2gb stick.

I don't think it's really fare to compare much at this point - not even dice/ln2 runs at 1.6v.

You're seeing results from people looking at 24/7 overclocks not smashing voltage though a chip at -150C.

No idea why, just how the program was written I guess.

So is it better for games and such to have HT turned off ? If not then why ? You get more Flops with HT turned off apparently.

You get about the same or slightly less with HT off.

HT is for multi-threaded apps, which most games are not.

If you play Vantage though, you'll get a nice boost in score.

The reason why HT off gets more GFLOPs is because HT isn't real cores. Sending 8 threads down 4 cores results in a massive bottleneck in optimized code (such as linpacks). You only benefit from HT if the software is horribly written.

So since Im a hardcore gamer and Crysis 2 , rage ect will be played by me @ very high res with all settings @ max. What do you recommend ? Should i turn it off or leave it on . Apart from gaming i browse the web ect . I never use photoshop or other programs.
