Well artificial cells have been created before... I think it was a yeast cell using a minimal DNA genome that was edited/created. It was basically inserted into a cell that was made ready. I'm not sure on the details, but that would satisfy you're claim. A nonliving cell body was combined with a nonliving genome and then the cell was viable.

Also, considering it took millions/billions of years for viable cells to come about via this this type of proposed model... it could take some time to substantiate it. Patience.

Aliens!? Bah, I wouldn't go as far a to say we were created. Genetically modified? Maybe. Created? Probably not. I do however remember reading about this, I'm way huge into evolution theory. One of the major problems currently is how to explain the creation of protein chains. It's numerically impossible for the right protein chains to all of a sudden appear, but then again patterns somehow seem to appear in the impossible. Who knows, I'm certainly not gong to spend my time worrying over how we were created.

Proteins couldn't, and wouldn't have come first. The machine that assembles protein in the cell (ribosome) is made almost entirely of RNA. The chemicals that bring amino acids (protein building blocks) to the ribosome are made of RNA (tRNA). The instructions for the building of the protein is made of RNA (mRNA). DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is essentially just RNA (ribonucleic acid) missing one hydroxyl group.

Everything points to RNA as being the center of life at the biochemical level.

But the "benefits" appear to consist entirely of smashing everything for fun.

It's just a thought experiment, and there's no real way to test it just yet. But it's the first time we even have a possible working explanation for how Earth's first tentative steps toward life might have happened.
