I just have the cheap Asus Xonar DG that someone here recomended and works great other than it's PCI and I'm running out of room eek.gif. Thinking about springing for the Xonar Essence STX just because it is X1. I don't have the great cans yet but even with my cheap HD201's it made a big difference.

That is very interesting, unfortunately my last experience with asus cards have been pretty questionable, my D1 most likely malfunctioned for absolutely no other reason then itself.

The overall build quality of the 5xx Sennheiser cans are flawed and eventually prone to cracking after heavy use. The Audio Technica AD700 also offers a noticeably larger sound stage paired with a decent card (Basic X-fi, Xonar DG,D1,DX etc). This is my opinion after using both cans for quite some time.

One of the things that I suspect (like I mentioned in my last post) was the fact that D1 is actually somewhat of a crappy card for gaming and sound improvement in general, therefore perhaps a good idea would be to perform more research on purchasing an actually trustworthy soundcard and then purchase the AD700's.

Speaking of which, what is the difference between A700's and AD700's other then the obvious close vs open difference?

The open vs closed difference alone is what changes the sound signature substantially. The AD700 should have a lot less bass than the A700. The AD700 has cloth pads while the A700 has pleather pads. The wing support system is pretty much the same.

Hi I registered just to reply to this thread. Genka I got the AD700s last week, the velvety cushioning ear cups are extremely comfortable. The headphones sit on your head gently and stay there firmly as long as you are not shaking violently for some reason. In fact I've used them while sleeping and they are great for that as well. : D

The soundstage - well, I probably haven't even unleashed half of its potential yet, since I'm still using onboard audio at this point. But yes the accuracy of sound is indeed excellent, there have been several times where I'm following someone from behind a wall purely by sound and happen to bump right into him.

HOWEVER. It has a VERRRY long and thick cord which makes it difficult to use for everyday iPod use and the color is as purple as Barney the dinosaur; I wouldn't rock these headphones in public if I were you.

Today I just got the Xonar DG. I can do a review on it after some testing, I am very excited to see what it can do.

damn, that purple? Wow. Is the lack of bass that noticeable when listening to music? I listen to a lot of rap/hiphop/rock and was considering the AD700's, or the sen 555 or 595 for gaming and music.

For me the bass is just enough (because I listen to music for its natural sound and not because I want to go deaf), but for that epic BOOOM, go use the search function.

The bass is no longer an issue for me anyway, because the Xonar DG adds some extra punch to bass.

I just finished testing the Xonar DG + AD700 combo on FEAR Multiplayer, and it was hilarious because I was following people around in circles.

I also played Dead Space with the virtual surround sound on. Beautiful immersion, really. I actually jumped a little today while playing this game, which I've never done before until now.
