Memtest 86+ and Sandy Bridge

Thread Starter
I have finished building my system and want to give it the ol' stress test.

Is anybody having any luck running memtest on Sandy Bridge? For me it gets to the blue screen, gives some stats, then freezes.

Is there an alternative I should try?

Dan

You're going to have to wait a bit, most of us haven't got our CPU/Board/Ram etc... yet so very few people are actually testing anything.

Maybe it is a bad disk? Try one of the Linux live Cd's, they have a Memtest option when booting up.

Also, if you have Windows 7, you can use it's built in memory checker (press F8 while booting and get to the options menu of Windows and select the check memory option). Not sure how it compares to Memtest, but it is an option.

I believe that you need to use memtest 4.20 which is in beta at the moment with Sandy Bridge.

Here are the links if you still need them.

Bin : http://www.memtest.org/download/beta/420b4/memtest.bin

Yes, so far 4.2b on a CD works just fine while 4.1b gives you freezes, earlier 4.xx causes reboots.
