Sandy Bridge 2600K upgrade?

Thread Starter
Would this give me any kind of FPS increase in games?

Basically, I'm looking for better FPS in Just Cause 2, Cryostasis, Crysis and Metro 2033.

Would this help at all? Thanks.

I'd guess that you'd see a slight increase...but still be limited by your gpu

Depends on a lot of different factors. The only certainty is that it will not perform worse.

i'd upgrade that gpu before cpu
Unless you're planning on selling the Phenom II (no idea what those go for these days) I wouldn't say the upgrade is worth the 300+ price tag atm. A 2nd GTX470 would improve performance a lot more for less cash.

Also, if you're getting a SB, you may as well invest in 1600MHz ram over 1333.

Whats so bad with a 470? You guys are talking about the GTX 470 as if it were like a 260 GTX. But yeah, GPU is more important, try SLi 470 as you will se a mutch better increase. SB will also improve performance but not so much in games (unless maybe SC2) but IMO not worth the performance-price when its for games

would u tell him to do it if he was on ddr2 and had a buyer for his parts thus only investing like 100$ of his own money?

I got the same cpu and I have the above mentioned situation

Remember that the GTX 470 was the 2nd best when released, and it is still excellent.
But if you want more FPS on the games you posted, a 2nd GPU might be better.

Also, if you're only going to use your PC for gaming, then I recommend the i5 2500k. Still, if you upgrade your CPU, you will definitely see a significant improvement for sure.

I am in a similar situation with my Phenom II 920. I am upgrading to a i5 2500K/Asus P67 pro/4 or 8gb of ddr3 ram. I hope I see a performance improvement. I think this upgrade will last a very long time seeing as how I know I will not want to shell out the cash for the rumored 2011 or 1356 enthusiast socket with quad channel ram. CPU's will be like $500 and mobos prob $300+ for things I do not need.

Also DDR3 1600 or 1333?? I was going to get Gskill Cas7 1600 ram for $65 but I got this newegg email this morning with a code EMCKJJJ84 for 8GB (4x2gb) of DDR3 ram for $79.

Ram link:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20231311-L024A

So 4gb of fast ram or 8gb of kind of fast ram for $15 more??
