PCI Slot fans?

Thread Starter
Anyone have any experience using pci fans for venting hot air?

I've also read about people reversing the blades on the fans to form intakes, though this seems like a poor idea considering that most psu's and vid cards vent out the back.

They're probably loud as hell.

This guy most likely has a passively cooled 9500gt, in which case just cable tie a 120mm onto it.

No there's a fan on the 9500gt, but i do have a galaxy 1 gb gtx460 coming, and i understand that those cards already run a little hot.

Was thinking about using the pci slot fan to blow fresh air into the fan on the gfx card, but would have to form a plastic hood or something so the pci fan isn't drawing from the psu or or gpu exhaust.

I had a slot fan under my 8800Ultra those days an it reduced temps by 10C If I remember

If their specs are to be believed, they are indeed loud as hell.

A better idea is to remove your slot covers next to your vidcard(s). Then get some window foam from the hardware store and use it to mount a regular case fan to pull air out. Look at the ATCS 840, for example, it comes with a back shack to pull air out.

the lian li ones are pretty good, there is a 140mm and a 2X120mm version. you can also change the fans and choose to use it as either intake or exhaust(intake is more efficient)...
