Is the Samsung Galaxy S still worth getting (in Australia)

Hey everyone.

Im looking for a new phone for uni and was wondering if getting the Samsung Galaxy S was still worth it (on a 2 year plan)?
Or does anyone know the release date of the Nexus S in Australia? or any other smartphone (preferably Android, (whats windows 7 mobile like???)) that will be released this month

Thanks

I've got a HTC desire and it was money well spent. Maybe its just me but I don't really like the galaxy, although its a nice phone I greatly prefer my desire.

Go into a Telstra shop and see which one you prefer aesthetically, otherwise the desire and the galaxy are pretty much identical and the OS's have been ported between phones (I think).
Edit as for wm7, have a play with it in a Telstra shop, they should have display models there.

The HTC Desire is 3.7". The HTC Desire HD is 4.3". The Galaxy S is a more powerful phone, featuring Bluetooth 3.0 and a more powerful GPU. But, do you really need it? Chose what you prefer aesthetically, and which OS you prefer as well. This isn't our call, it's yours and since its your mobile, it has to be based on your personal preferences. Want a solid metalic feel phone? Go with HTC. Want a solid plasticy feel phone? Go with Samsung...it's all up to you. As to which OS, WP7 and Android offer differ features, and once again it's what you prefer just try different phones out and go with the one that makes you say 'WANT!'.

I was waiting for a whole month or less for the bell worker to get the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant to be shipped in so I can finally get my hands on a Android 2.2

Going back there she tells me that she was informed of why it never came-
Samsung refused to ship these out due to problems STILL with the GPS and reading that online, they fixed that by September.. (last year or something)
So I'm out of luck on the Vibrant and Captivate, both aren't a good idea for me but if you don't use the GPS then best of luck, they're pretty awesome looking phones..

sadface- unable to get mine..

Captivate or Vibrant?? i think in Aus we only have the standard galaxy s.... if that makes sense. Will the phone still receive updates over the next 2 years? or will they "drop" it for the nexus s?? and thanks everyone love the help (fairly new, is this when i start to +rep people?)

The Standard Galaxy S is the best version. Also, the Nexus S gets updates from Google, not Samsung . So, Samsung should be supporting the Galaxy S for another year or so and there are good chances it'll get the upgrade to Android 3 when it comes out. (Also, you rep someone when you think they deserve it.)

You could get it from here:
http://www.mobicity.com.au/samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html

Thats the average price for a Galaxy S. And you don't need to close threads, you just leave them

I believe he wants to get it on a plan...

Also, since the nexus s is pretty much identical hardware wise to the galaxy s there should be Rom ports from it for as long as people are willing to update it (the desire has a better modding community but I expect the galaxy's one to expand soon).
