A fair comment, but considering the amount of time and money AMD has poured into BD you would have thought they would at least beat last gen Intel tech.

This fail calling is fail.

Well mr Fail caller, you are not the consumer. You are the obnoxius guy asking why the cashier doesn't use a mechanical keyboard right now.

Wether or not they'll beat the new i7 or the old one is pointless for the masses, they're gonna see 8 cores at 3.x ghz and think "that gotta be faster than 4 cores at 3.x ghz"

Hell i don't even think most of you will care anyway, you will whine about something else or switch to mac and and start calling apples "magic mouse" the best real mouse out there, a pc mmouse has more than two buttons thus its sli/crossfired dual mouse in a single plastic shell.

enough ramblings, the next gen of amd is promising, more so than intels since amd are the underdog.

Guess which performs better all around? I like my 1055T build-I like my Nehalem build even more for what I do.
Do you do use much VMWARE with both systems? Which one is faster and why? How about compiling a large application with mutliple modules? which one is faster and why?

I also own both, both are very nice chips? In real world performance, they are a lot closer than the benchmarks suggest.

I really hope this isn't the case

I'm still going to buy a bulldozer system with my tax refund credits.

I'm sure JF-AMD is perfectly content. He's a server guy, and as a server chip BD is going to be great. It can scale well, has good performance, but most importantly for server guys, has a good performance to watt ratio.

I would be impressed if Bulldozer was at least 10% faster than 980x.

The article is pretty vague, it doesn't even specify if this is single threaded or multi threaded, or if this is x6 or x8 bulldozer.

It also says:
Quote:
Bulldozer should come really close to new Core i7 six-core CPUs.
Perhaps they are taking the ~10% per clock performance increase of SB and speculating that IB will bring the same per clock increase.

If you're a glass half empty kind of guy then you might read into this as x8 Bulldozer barely competing with Gulftown. For all we know x6 Bulldozer might hang with IB, and x8 Bulldozer will crush it.

People estimate a BD module at 180% or one physical core, and HT at 130% of a physical core. So an 8 core BD have a possibility of matching a 6 core / 12 thread i7.
pretty certain yes, but not sure. But some industry analysts that I have read, have speculated that a BD module will perform similar to a intel core with HT. However this will be benchmark dependant, in the server world I see a BD module doing better, on the desktop probably not... average those 2 arenas and you get the drift.

Until BD comes out and we have a plethora of realworld tests/synthetic benchmarks we really don't know. Hence speculation.

personally I am glad I didn't jump the gun and buy a 2600k a few days back - I may still but I am gonig to wait till BD comes out (i am hoping the rumors prove true and we have an April launch)

Fud = a bunch of wild monkeys

Fud don't just fail at delivering facts, no they also fail at basic grammar and spelling.

Anyway, I hope for AMD that BD is faster clock for clock than the Core i7 second gen because if not they could have just tweaked the PHII architecture again and added two more cores.
