Q6600 to SB is a good move. Especially if you do more than just game. Take it from me, I just made the switch! biggrin.gif

You really get a lot of performance for $330 (270 for me, hell yeah MicroCenter!) It feels very "future proof."

Thats also the impression i got after reading the OP, although if id have just bought a i5 760 id be pissed too as he could have had a 2500k rig...
Buyer's remorse can be a *****.

It's really up to each individual to decide what they want to spend their money on.

Imagine buying the fastest CPU and GPU every time it came out you'd be constantly spending and upgrading and installing. Some people might enjoy that but some may not.

Some of you may not be aware that the low energy versions are coming and will be even more ideal for HT. There is a 65 watt quad already out and a 45 watt on the way. An i5 on the way is 2.8ghz HT, and will turbo to 3.5 with TDP 35 watts. Of course, price is unknown but...yeah, it's fun to upgrade but I'm on my Tick right now. Another year.

To piggyback on that, lest we forget, Ivy bridge will have a die shrink and probably LESS TDP. Not to mention what speeds and what upgrades they will probably do to the onboard vid. I just bought the 980x, and I have a 965; buying a sandybridge right now would be pointless because SB< 980x + GTX580 anyday.
