I put a VERY tiny rice/pea size (inbetween cause I have found that pea can be a bit big) in the middle of the processor and then your done. I don't spread it cause when you screw on the heat sink it will spread it out itself.

A pea size is too large, more like a BB sized or 1/2 grain of rice.



Spreading TIM before applying it greatly increases the chance of getting an air bubble.

Use a BB's size amount for less viscous pastes like MX2. Use a pea size amount for thicker, viscous pastes like ICD7.

Don't spread it yourself. The heatsink will spread it for you.

the die is in the center... thats where the heat comes from. therefore, you only need enough to spread the middle.

I am about to put paste on my new 2600K and I have spent hours reading about application techniques. It really is very confusing because everyone has their own favorite method. I thought the video linked in #13 is very interesting and it does seem that spreading it with a card would cause air bubbles. But I have Tuniq TX-4 and that is the method they recommend. They even supply the card to spread with. It also seems from their application instruction pictures that they use a lot more than others use. I assume that is because the paste is thicker. TX-3 is even thicker than TX-4 and I like the way this guy applies it


I might try that since Tuniq recommends the card method. They recommend 2 lines of paste though but many have mentioned how difficult it is to spread.

I am also going to warm up my paste in warm water first before I spread it because it is so thick.
