I dont get it....
I bent the pins on my original motherboard today. Went and bought an identical one, and cant get it to boot when i apply the exact same OC settings.... this makes 0 sense.

I picked up a 2500k and an asrock p67 extreme4 gen3 today biggrin.gif

now that I have windows all set up and updated and my games on I started doing a little overclocking. I left it at 1.2v, set it to 40x. I attempted to disable all the usual power saving (speedstep, C1E) etc but notice when I'm in windows my frequency is still fluctuating some.

Is there a good guide somewhere for the bios of my board?

Got that taken care of, all C states disabled. running a steady 4008mhz at 1.21v.

Two options exist: either the CPU was damaged by the bent pin or overclocking, or the new motherboard you bought isn't as well built as the previous one. Electronics can be very hit or miss. I'm really not surprised.

I've got the p67 fatal1ty pro on the way and a 2600k also on the way.

Might OC (at stock voltage) and see what it can do with a hyper 212+ if worse comes to worse I'll go out and buy an H80.

Any suggestions would be nice.

Hey all, just got my new AsRock P67 Extreme4 Gen 3 mobo and I like it alot. Tight squeeze for my xspc 360 rad, the heatsink covers on the mobo are just a bit too big so i think i might take them off to get a bit more room. On another note I'm overclocking my 2500k to 4.8 and am about to run prime for stability (12+hrs) but i'm messing around with 5.0 right now just to see if i can hit it. i think i got a crapish chip because to keep away BSOD 101 i have to have my vcore at 1.465 and the average is about 1.438 so eh. On another note i have a question; When i overclock to 4.8 i dont need to have PLL overvoltage enabled but I do for 5.0. if i can run 4.8 stable without PLL off is that good or should i just turn it on since im over 4.5ghz?

I seen many i5's needing 1.45+ to do 4.8 try lowering you pll to 1.75 or a little lower see if that helps.

Also cant you move the rad a little or Mod the fans a little bit to make it fit without removing the covers?

That is a nice board you got there i set many of those boards up lately. Its like the ideal setup for gaming and it usually comes bundled pretty cheap with the i5 so its a great deal.

im doing 4.8 at 1.390 vcore

when i do 5.0 thats when my vcore is 1.45+

Props to your build btw, it's inspired me to do some of my own case mods seeing as i have the NZXT phantom as well! I already painted the inside portion of the case and when it gets warmer out im going to paint the outside. I'm thinking about doing a bottom radiator setup later too
dont know why the pic i posted is rotated sorry about that

I can't even get passed 4.5ghz with overvoltage disabled. I'm starting to think my 2500k isn't capable, or my mobo isn't good. Has anyone here processed and RMA with Asrock?

Can I be sure that Asrock will release an IB bios update for my board? I went for the Extreme 6 because Im not that bothered about pushing the clock speed, I just wanted it to last as long as my last board, an Abit IP35 Pro with Quad Core 9550@3.3ghz, since 2007 (I just built a new pc for a relative with that board and it works fine!) .

Did I buy the wrong board?
