Hi

I just need some help choosing a few components for my build. At the moment am running a asus maxumus Formula mobo (X38) 8gb Corsair (1066) Ram, intel core 2 duo @ 3.33ghz stock, ati 5770 gpu

I was thinking of upgrading my ram, cpu and mobo, my choice of componenets are:

MOBO

Asus Rampage extreme 3

CPU

Intel Core I7 950

RAM

Corsair Dominator GT 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C8 2000MHz

Now am in two minds wether i should get this setup, or a sanybridge cpu and mobo

I would really appreciate it if you could advise me on what to Purchase, should i use this setup above or go for something else

btw the rig will be used for gaming

Thanks

I can tell you, having one myself, that the i7 950 is a great CPU. Corsair are a good name to go for in RAM, I have their XMS3 range and it does everything I want and comes with a lifetime warranty - you can't ask for more than that. The dominator is their top of the range, so it can only be better than mine. I have also seen a very cool looking Corsair RAM cooler which attaches to the dominators which might be worth a look if you follow that route.

Its going to cost you near the same either way so you might as well go with the newer hardware. If you plan on OCing, then SB is definitely a better route to go. Triple channel is really just a gimmick, and the SB chips will give you roughly the performance of a 970. You said you were going to CF in the future? The 5770 in CF will give you approximately the performance of a single 5870 which is plenty for modern gaming, just remember not all games like dual card setups.
