1090t vs i5 2500k - Page 7

I'm just trying to tell you that performance wise;
i7 = i5 for gaming (you can even disable HT with i7)
i7 > i5 for multi-threaded apps

And that HT is not useless.

But I have failed to convince you, since you had already made up your mind about it and are not willing to change it no matter how benchmarks anyone posts.

You can disable $100 to get the same performance as the i5 provides, got it.

Yes indeed, and the 1090T > your i7 in those same apps.

And the 1090T is good enough to game on, so if you're beating the drums of multi-threaded apps you bought the wrong chip.

The 1090T is $5 more than the i5-2500k, it's just not winning the price vs performance aspect at this time. A decent quality board on either side is going to cost just about the same, it's really a non issue.

The DRM only affects the Insider service and allows the digital streaming of 1080p movies long before you can get it anywhere else.

The kill switch afaik is only provided for businesses and allows your chip to be rendered worthless while a thief has it. Once you get it back you can enter your password to re-enable to cpu or you can contact Intel and they'll send you a one time use code to re-activate it.

Depending how you look at it both of those features are good - unless you steal things - in which case they're bad.

The i5 2500k is $5 cheaper then the 1090t, so technically AMD is the expensive one between them . I'd be real interested in getting my hands on one but I'm too lazy to swap out mobo's so I'll just wait for to see how Bulldozer does, haven't had my 1090 too long anyways so I think I can live with it for a while. Worst case, I'll just hold out till Ivy, and see how everything stacks up.

This post doesn't make any sense... An i7 has the same gaming performance as a i5 and performs better while encoding. Quick-Sync from Intel is appealing but it only supports Sandy Bridge... I may have to build a Core i7 2600k rig. If your just going to build a PC just for Pure Gaming an i5 is for you.

A 1090T doesn't beat a Core i7 950 in Cinebench at stock clocks but a 1100T does because it's 340Mhz faster but once both are overclocked a Core i7 can beat a Phenom II x6 at almost any type of multi-threaded application. These "Fake" cores that Intel created are amazing and they justify the $100 different between i5 and i7.

I would say if you cant find any better deal then the one you linked with a Sandybridge setup then just stay with the AMD one. Unless you wanna future proof yourself even further down the road then just hit it up with a SB whatever you want, but the 2600k would be the best value if you overclock it and since it has HT. And hopefully newer games will take advantage of more then 2-3 cores like most games do now.

It does when you consider you're not gaining anything with HT on. And you're losing clocks and using more volts with it on. You can overclock a 9xx higher without HT.

So since HT doesn't provide any performance in game, and you lose clocks with it on, it is a performance loss.

Sorry, but after arguing with Intel people for a long time I already know this game.

The i5 is better for gaming.

The 1090T is better for multi-tasking.

The 9xx has no place in this world.

Stupid anywhere but overclock.net were we pursue performance!

Some would say HWbot is stupid - who runs DICE or LN2 any time other than benchmarking and why even do that?

Perspective isn't something we all share.

Arguing back and forth for page upon page and refusing to pay attention to anything posted is what's stupid.

But I'm out because I'm not about to get into that.

Unless you're spending huge amounts of money, a cheap i3 with two 580's will outperform anything you can build with a 2500K for the same price.

I'm still on page 1, but the post was 1090T v i5-2500k which is the better value for gaming.

Not which piece of low end gear can I obtain that will play x game respectable for y months.

Buy an xbox or ps3 with that logic.
