Damn autodownclocking!

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

Having issues with GPU 2 constantly downclocking itself while I'm folding. It goes from 800/1600 to 405/810. 15.5k to 8.3k just sucks and the only thing that fixes it, temporarily at that, is a restart. So fellow folders what can I do to force it to stay at my settings 24/7?

How positive are you that you are stable?
Usually it downclocks due to it being unstable.

Make sure Aero is enabled.

Also try forcing 3d clocks.
MSI AB - Save profile - Settings - Profile - Automatic Profile Management - 2d/3d - Select your profile.

Pretty stable from what I can tell. Been running like this for months and haven't had any problems for the most part.

Aero's enabled.

Selected my profiles for 2d/3d management. Gotta wait and see if it'll stay that way now.

Also C I've got another question for you. I got my buddy into folding and he's got quite a few failures on HFM for his 570. What's that usually indicative of?

If it still downclocks try a different set of drivers, it may have gotten corrupted. We all know how silly Windows is at times.

As for your friend grab the logs and post it here in [code] tags.

On the drivers issue I've noticed it doing it since about 258.96, but its rare.

Once I get a hold of him I'll tell him to send me the logs.

I know the ATI cards downclock to 400mhz from 850 if you are watching a youtube vid or have any flash running. Do Nvidia have any similar bugs?

mmm good point. I was recently watching stuff from my itunes library so that might have done it. At other times though I'll leave it and go to work and all the clocks are normal but when I get home it'll have downclocked itself for no apparent reason.

No.
Maybe you need to fix your drivers that is why you BSOD or you have an unstable GPU OC.

I fold while watching videos all the time, that includes half a dozen different online video players and VLC.

I have the oppersite effect. When I'm not folding, my clocks are stuck at 3d rather than downclocking to 2d levels.

"YouTube with the latest Flash10.1 uses the cards Unified Video Decoder (UVD) mode which on a reference HD5 series is 400Mhz/900Mhz. This is lower than the cards High Performance mode. UVD mode will overide any mode, so if you have a YouTube video or any movie which uses Hardware Acceleration of the card and Milkyway@home or any 3D program/game at the same time, the card will remain at the lower 400/900 until the video is closed."

It's a known issue. Not something I did.
