SLI using one 16x and 8x expansion slot on Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

Thread Starter
Is this possible to do on the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. I have tired it myself and the card that I put in the 8x slot was not recongized in SLI. I have checked the manual to the motherboard and they recommend using the 16x/16x lanes but it doesn't state anywhere else that you cant use one 16x and a 8x.

I already run the cards on the 16x 16x lanes but I dont like how close they are together as it is heating up the top card and id rather some air flow between the two.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I will give it a try but seriously should I have to do that to get SLI work? I want to use the first 16x slot and the second 8x slot on the board to allow airflow between them both. I havnt found anyone with this problem either..

alright so i have found the problem, the clip on the expansion card slot of the 8x is not making the clipping noise when I push it in, part of the card is in and the other part is loose, is there any fix for this or am I going to have to RMA it?

is something in their? wow that's horrible

Gigabyte RMA seems to be pretty good, if all else fails, just RMA
