Tbh, the Samoan (Western Samoan, not American Samoa) system is tbh, the most democratic I have seen. However it can really realistically only work with small populations.
i would imagine the founders of the united states would never have imagined that the united states would be so huge and contain so many people.

Um, the MMP system can easily work for greater populations....
However it's in both parties interests to keep the status quo.

You have to ask yourself why there are secrets in the first place. Research and technology advances I can understand, since that's not really government related, but if your nation is murdering civilians in another country, shouldn't you have a right to know? If we live in a true democracy, then the people that ordered their deaths did so on our behalf, so we are just as responsible.

The Government doesn't need to be 100% transparent with it's people, that's why you elect officials to represent you on your behalf, and seriously if you didn't know that things like the "Get Sum" Apache were going on then you are seriously mistaken about war. **** like that happens in all wars.

He (Julian Assange) didn't commit the espionage. He was just the frontman / founder for the organisation that received it.

I wanted to say that although you may not agree with some things protected by the US Constitution and the US Bill of Rights, you can not pick and choose as to which parts are acceptable and which are not - it is the US Constitution and Bill of Rights as a whole that helps to provide you with your way of life.

Saying that, "freedom of the press" is protected under the first amendment - and as Thomas Jefferson so eloquently put it:
Quote:
Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.
Lastly, convicting Wikileaks of espionage, would also mean that all other press in the US and around the world that have published the leaks are also open to espionage charges.

Exactly, we do not live in a democracy. The United States was founded as federal constitutional republic not a democracy.

Finally an internet company with a spine.

I might make a twitter account just to support their backbone. I bet Facebook wouldn't defend their users like that...
