ATX Cases??

Thread Starter
I see a lot of ATX cases with the PS on the bottom of the case.

I thought only BTX cases setup that way. Is there anything special I need to do If I get an ATX case with PS on the bottom?

The official ATX recommendations have the PSU up top.

However, companies are allowed to deviate from the guideline. All cases with bottom-mounted PSU take into account for the PSU standard design.
Once again...

Yeah regular atx motherboards will fit.

Thanks for the info.

Be sure not to get an Antec chassis if you want a good bottom mounted PSU. The reason is they have no ventilation on the bottom for the PSU intake. This means that the PSU has to intake from the motherboard GPU side which dramatically increases the GPU inlet temperatures. If you get any other chassis they will have mounts so you can mount them up or down facing.

So your saying I want heat from the GPU to pass through the PSU??

I guess it make sense.. What would you guys recommend.. sucking air from the vid card or sucking air from the bottom if vented?

How the heck would that increase GPU temps? That fan on the psu sucks in air from the case and blows the heat out the back, just as the GPU fan does. If anything it creates better airflow in that area.

Also, Antec does make cases with a bottom inlet, and those that don't you can mount fan up or down (which is not an issue at all since their is plenty of space for airflow).

Having the PSU at the bottom gives the case a bit better balance having more weight at the bottom. When the ATX standard was written, many times the only fan a case had was in the PSU, so it exhausted the heat from the case (at the top) as well as cooler the PSU components.
