i7 950 vs i7 2600k

Thread Starter
Hey guys! i want to know if it's better to get the i7 2600k or the 950. cpu benchmarks gave the 2600K the best rating for the bucks--better than the 950. what are the pros and cons to this? and socket 1155? isnt it older?

Overall the 2600k is a better performer.
At $250 for a 950 you're better off spending a little extra for the 2600k.

I picked up my 950 for $200 over the holidays, from my perspective it was an easy choice given the motherboard options I have for 1366.

I have an i950, but if I didnt and were looking to upgrade right now, I would get 2600K no question. 2600K overclocks better, much more energy efficient, ~10% faster clock for clock, and system will likely be cheaper.

2600k if you want/need a better processor, 950 and LGA1366 if you want or need 24 GB of RAM. You're limited to 16 GB on current LGA1155 boards. You probably can't notice a difference between the two CPUs unless you're doing video encoding or other CPU-intensive tasks.
