UK is 230VAC, so the psu got twice the voltage it should have.

In the US it might not have killed anything, but in the UK it will kill the PSU and possibly other things.

The UK used to be 240v, but then the French invaded (sold us electricity) and so now we use 230v so as to make it easier to use their electricity.

220V, 230V, and 240V are all the same. Same thing with 110V, 115V, and 120V. There's a large tolerance involved. I just use the terms 120VAC and 230VAC.
