Drivers Installation

Thread Starter
What is the RAID/SSD driver for the P8P67 Evo? does an SSD require a driver to be installed?

Also, once I install Win7 on my PC, will it download the all of the drivers automatically? How is the process of installing drivers work on Win7?

should only take a few minutes to install drivers

might require a restart when finished
you can install them one after another without restarting

the raid driver is probably for software raid, not quite as fast as bios/hardware raid

ssd driver will set windows to make the best use from the ssd, no defrag while idle, or other unnecessary drive writing (that can wear down the drive quicker)

Windows 7 is pretty slick about giving you the drivers you need but I would suggest going out the each of the manufactures websites and downloading the newest drivers and installing them.

Windows will install pretty much all the drivers you need, automatically. However, in the case of your gpu and mobo, I would check out each manufacturer's website for the most recent drivers.

Concerning your SSD, Windows will install the Microsoft SSD TRIM driver by default. This driver will be installed automatically, along with the rest of the drivers Windows installs. For best performance, I would recommend downloading an Intel SSD TRIM driver, as you are on an Intel chipset. You can download it from here.

How can I check which drivers has windows installed and which it hadn't? Also, are they updated?

I had no idea SSD drivers were necessary.

Windows Device Manager. Devices that Windows can not find drivers for will show up in the "Other Devices" section under the name of "Unknown Device." Here is an example.

However, even if Windows Device Manager lists a a device as being installed and having the proper drivers, I would still go to the manufacturers website to download the most up-to-date drivers. These will most likely improve the devices' performance.

SSDs, just like every other component, need drivers to operate properly. Without SSD drivers, the TRIM command would not be implemented, and therefore SSD performance would degrade very quickly.

And yes, Windows 7 will update your drivers automatically.

Okay, thanks.

Just one more question, where are the chipset drivers in that list?

The two drivers on that list specialized for SSDs on the Intel chipset, not for the chipset itself. If you want chipset drivers, download the latest drivers from your motherboard manufacturers website.

The only difference between those two drivers is that the top one is only in English, while the bottom one is multi-language. Your profile didn't say where you are located, so I left up the link for the multi-language driver.

Is it okay to overwrite chipset drivers without uninstalling the previous ones?

By the way, I was always wondering, isn't the Ethernet driver needed for internet connectivity? How can I actually download drivers without installing that one first?

(sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to this)
