I would say go with something newer for the video card possibly.

If you want to go with water cooling but are afraid of the price, go with the XSPC Rasa RS240 or RS360 kits.
For cases, the NZXT Phantom is a great case for the price. But if you like the HAFx that is also a nice case. I would personally recommend the HAF 932 over the HAFx just because of the price and I have seen a lot of people that like the 932 over the x.

here is the RS360 kit

He should be ok with that card, and I would recommend getting 2, he can also unlock them to 5870's
your build is very solid, and will be great for gaming.

I have an EVGA GTX 460 and it runs everything I have superbly so I can definitely vouch for the GPU on your list, although I may suggest you look at the EE (external exhaust) model especially if you are planning on SLI, dependant on how good your case cooling is going to be. I always feel its best for a GPU to blast their hot air out the back of the case, rather than circulate it inside.
r.e. The case, I was torn between the HAFX and the Corsair 600T. I went for the 600T in the end and am very happy with it.

Sorry. I was reading some reviews while making the post and the pair of 6850's outperforms the pair of 460's for close to the same price.

Does the 932 have a version that has it's interior painted?
